At the time, ‘The Tree’ was one of my favourite stories that I had written. This was published in Schlock! Webzine in December 2013. Schlock have featured some amazing writers, and to be chosen to appear in an issue was a big thrill for me. When the webzine was published, I noticed my name on the cover, which was awesome, but it took a friend to point out that the picture was a tree!
It tells the story of a group of teenagers who head into the woods one night, ignoring the police warnings, and go in search of a tree of legends – a child eater. Local children have gone missing, and the group hope to discover if the tree is real.
When I sat down to write this, I wanted to write a very cliched horror – kids go into the haunted woods one night – but I wanted to give it a twist, which I hope I did.
