My entry into this weekend’s music share as inspired by Hugh’s News and Views, is the Beastie Boys 3 MC’s and 1 DJ.
The theme this weeks is ‘favourite genre,’ and whilst my music tastes are very eclectic, my all time-fave is hip hop, with the daddy of all of them (for me at least) being the Beastie Boys.
I remember buying my first album back in 1985, and have been there ever since!
There are so many favourite songs of theirs that I could call on, but for today, I’ll satisfy myself with this one. Oh, and this one. Damn.
Go knock yourself out sometimes it’s impossible to stop at one 💜

Was this the early days of hip-hop? I don’t remember it being around much in the 80s.

sorry Hugh. I’ve been a bit off the pace recently. My first Beastie Boys album was 1985, and it included their massive hit ‘Fight For Your Right (To Party)’. before that, they were hardcore punk (forming in 1981), before transitioning to hip hop. Hip hop has been around since the 70s, becoming mainstream in the late 70s, with artists like my fave Grandmaster Flash. and Sugarhill Gang with hits like ‘Rappers Delight’ (released 1979).
